The family tree of the Köhl von Chur includes several hundred persons. For a better overview, the family tree was divided into several family lines.
This includes the first few genre creations as well as the complete line of the white tanner Gili Köhl. Family line
This includes the first few generations of the mayor Bernhardt von Köhl. From this line then other family lines have developed.
This family line has produced several master tanners in the Köhlsche Gerbe. Also, one descendant emigrated to the USA and founded a new branch of the family there, which still has descendants in the USA today.
Several higher city officials emerged from this wealthy family line. Sebastian and his descendants were able to accumulate considerable assets as legitimate heirs of the noble Bernhard von Köhl. The last descendant of this line died in the USA in 1968.
In order to compile the family chronicle of the Köhl von Chur family, it was first necessary to compile a comprehensive and complete genealogical table of all family members. This served as the basis for the development of the individual biographies and biographies - and ultimately for the entire chronicle of the Köhl von Chur family. Of interest were not only the direct descendants, but also family members by marriage and their family background.
Although genealogical charts or family trees already exist for several families, these are often incomplete, limited to individual branches and are not available in digital form. The focus is often on well-known or influential families, with male members taking centre stage. In the publication Sammlung rätischer Geschlechter by Anton Herkules Sprecher von Bernegg, numerous Chur families were recorded, but here too the main focus was on more prominent names and personalities.
However, the Köhl family was connected to a large number of other families in Chur, many of which have hardly been the subject of genealogical research to date. In order to better understand these family connections and their backgrounds, it was useful and valuable to compile additional genealogical tables.
A total of 120 genealogical tables were compiled as part of this project. On over 1100 pages, the biographical data of over 8000 former residents of Chur are mentioned. The genealogical tables start from 1550 and in some cases only end before 1920. Some genealogical tables contain details of people after 1920. However, these genealogical tables can only be viewed with the appropriate authorisation. Almost all the persons mentioned have also been recorded in the genealogical database famylisearch.net. The focus of this project was on the persons mentioned in the Terz and Köhl chronicles and their family branches.
