Peter came from the Gilli Köhl branch of the family and was the son of Antoni Köhl. His mother's name is not known. He was 17 years old when his father died. At the age of 35, he joined the shoemakers' guild and became a master craftsman. In 1669, one year later, he married Elisabeth Schreiber from Zerneus (Klosters). However, he does not appear to have had any children with her.
His son Antoni Köhl was born in 1678. Madlena Bernatti was given as his mother. It is not known where she came from. Nor did they have any other children. It is interesting to note that Gertrud and Martha Köhl, daughters of the mayor Bernhard Köhl, were present at the baptism. It could well be that Bernhard Köhl had Peter involved in his flourishing trading business or that he worked for him.
Peter lived in I. Quart(Araschgen), also known as im Sand. He lived there with his son, perhaps also with his wife. It is not known what profession Peter pursued. However, he probably worked as a tanner. He paid his taxes regularly, but there is no indication that he was wealthy or owned his own business.
In 1716, town clerk Bernhard Cleric approached pastor Bernhard Köhl in Untervaz and asked him to mediate in the inheritance dispute between the heirs of Madlena Bernatti.[1] It appears that Madlena Bernatti had other children. Madlena Bernatti probably died in 1716.
